Lady Isabel Ashton’s life was ruined by the notorious pirate Captain Kent Carlton. Though terribly outraged and bitter toward Captain Carlton for the evil acts he bestowed upon her she can not help but love their son. And Isabel may never have found the Lord if not for a kind reverend who took her in when she thought all was lost.

Lady Ashton’s new-found faith is tried when her son is kidnapped and the only one willing and able to help her is his father, Captain Carlton. Kent is more than willing to help Isabel as all he’s thought about and searched for over the past year has been Isabel. Though he didn’t know they had a son and with all that is in him, regrets the violent act that produced him, he is not sorry that Lady Ashton has turned to him for help. Maybe his actions will show her that he has changed, at least towards her – he even renamed his ship "The Restitution".

Appalled to have to step foot on the ship where she was ravaged, over the course of their search for their son, Lady Ashton sees God working in her life. Though pirates will be pirates, Isabel as well as others sees miraculous answers to her prayers over the course of their voyage. She also sees the change in Captain Carlton. Isabel doesn’t want to admit it but, she no longer feels threatened by the Captain and she gradually looses the bitterness and hate. Kent also is feeling strange as he can see Isabel’s God working and knows there must be a higher Power. Eventually Kent secretly gives himself to the Lord and is willing to make "restitution" for his past mistakes and prays Isabel will forgive him too.

Though Isabel and Kent become separated the Lord is working with each of them to help them discover how relying on Him will ease their paths, they are not alone and most of all His forgiveness will set them free. How will God bring these two opposites together making them whole? Only His love for them and their growing love for each other will be able to overcome the evil that is looming all around them.

Marylu Tyndall has created her characters in such a way that they jump off the page at you. She has obviously done her research on the ships and pirates of the era as the scenes are painted with enough detail to make you feel as though you’re watching the story unfold but doesn’t lose you in the detail.

As many emotions take you through the course of Isabel and Kent’s voyage of "Restitution", you are left with the peace that God forgives and is in charge. He loves and cares for all His children even though bad things may happen. I look forward to the next book in Ms. Tyndall’s Legacy of the King’s Pirate series.
