Rachel Scott lost her family to the rodeo circuit. Her father was killed because of the rodeo and her mother left, at first because of the glamour of the circuit, then because big city and fast paced living was more her style. What the rodeo world has taken from her life and kept from her life causes her to vow never to have anything to do with that world again. But she may not be able to keep that vow when she meets Lynx Maddox, rodeo rider, on a blind date.
Lynx has had his world turned upside down with the death of his brother and the divorce from his wife. Both events drive him to the point of needing to win the coveted Silver Buckle. Both events have changed him in ways he can’t see, until he meets Rachel.
They each seem to be fighting a losing battle as they struggle to maintain their distance from one another. Their reasons seemingly justified as they work to protect their hearts. But are they protecting their hearts for the right reasons? Or have they talked themselves into seeing and feeling things that have changed and don’t matter anymore?
Though there seems to be a couple of inconsistencies with the feeling of having missed something, a few flowery phrases that don’t seem to fit, and a bit of head hopping, the story itself was a pleasant diversion. I was caught up enough to want to see how they would work through their internal issues to find their way to their happily ever after.
Ms. Vines writes with compassion as she brings two lost and hurt souls together to heal and love. Nothing unpleasant about that.
