I really enjoyed Jillian Hart’s latest love story, Rocky Mountain Man. Jillian writes about a young widow and a wounded man who find loving each other as necessary as breathing.

Duncan Hennessey has demons he’s fighting and wants to be left alone. The large and lonely mountain man saved Betsy Hunter from hungry bears, which were much like him – fierce and intimidating. Betsy isn’t hurt but Duncan has been mauled and lingers close to death. As Betsy cared for the wounds Duncan suffered because of her, she could tell he was a tender, gentle man.

Duncan pushes Betsy away over and over again thinking that he is not good enough for her and if she found out his past would run far away from him anyway. Time begins to heal his body but not his soul. As Betsy nurses Duncan, she comes to realize he is her true love. Knowing Duncan must have suffered, Betsy sets out to try and reach him. Betsy’s family tried to interfere and meddle in her life but knowing they do it out of love makes her strong and ready to fight for what she wants. Eventually Betsy convinces Duncan that their love runs so deep that nothing can come between them, not his past or her family.

I loved Betsy and Duncan’s story. I found that I could hardly put the book down wondering how Betsy would breakdown Duncan’s barriers. Duncan’s past was heart-breaking. It was hard to read the manipulation, cruelty and injustice an innocent man suffered. It seems that it takes only one manipulative, vicious woman to embitter our heroes and it sure happened to Duncan. The many conflicts the couple faced drew their love stronger. I loved how Betsy knew without a doubt that Duncan was innocent of what others said he did and the reason he went to prison. Though I did wish he would have told her sooner, but in the end they have the connection only those who’ve known true love can feel.

I appreciated Jillian’s style and ability to describe the intimacy subtly. Through the many implied encounters, Jillian enhances the love, not the act and also leaves some things to my imagination.

Thank you, Jillian, for sharing Betsy and Duncan’s story. If you are a romance fan and looking for a special love story, you’ll enjoy Rocky Mountain Man. It stirs the heart and soul.
