Forgiveness is such a simple word, with a profound definition.  To truly forgive yourself and others you must let go, Romantic Notions, is a story about people needing to forgive themselves and let go.  It’s also a story about the consequences you suffer when you can't let go, and the pain that causes you.

Did you ever do something that you deeply regretted?  Did you allow that one action to color the decisions that you make for a long time?  Did you ever allow one decision to completely alter the way that you look at yourself and your future?  Do you ever feel that you are not worth of forgiveness?  If you can answer yes, to even one of these questions than you know exactly where the heroine of this book is coming from.  Amber Carfi is running; from herself, her past, and desperately trying to stay in the immediate present, even though she's yearning for a dream life with her dream man, Warren Jensen.    Amber is trying to outrun one foolish indiscretion, and by doing that she's wrecking her chance at the future! Every decision that Amber makes, she makes to try and forgive herself and in an attempt to prove herself worthy of a normal life, yet at the same time, every decision that she makes, brings her on a crash course with her destiny.  The main issue facing Amber, is can she free herself from her past, while facing the dangers of the present?  Warrren Jensen, is the man of Amber's dreams and fantasies.  After years of friendship, and an on the job partnership, the two become lovers.  It’s a magical time, this new love blossoming, and Warren is overjoyed.  Yet, Warren is wrestling with the demons from his past; heartache and loss are deeply affecting the way that he lives and loves in the present. Warren has secrets, secrets that lurk deep within his soul. The difference between his secrets and Ambers is that only he can free himself from them. It's up to Warren to let go of the past and face the future.

Amber and Warran are both Patrol Officers on the Falcon Bend Police Department. They are joined by a great cast of characters that will be well known to followers of this series.  Each of those characters play a role in the book, and the reader is brought up to date on all there past favorites.  In this installment of the series, a murder rocks the small town, and leaves the police department baffled.  The who's, why's, and how's aren't adding up!  The only way to solve the murder is to send Amber into the thick of danger, as the bait for a murderer!  What follows is a well thought out story; it has all the key elements of a good crime drama.  It has well developed characters, a thoughtful plot, and some steamy love scenes!

The story flows well, and keeps the readers interest. It's a great character development story, as the characters follow through the different stories, and get more depth as the story line progresses.  The only true criticism that I have is that, this is the first and only book of the series that I have read, and at times I felt a little lost, like the characters were too developed for me to pick-up. There are a lot of entwined relationships that I enjoyed seeing unfold.  I also enjoyed the small town character study that this book is:  without being too obvious the town is one of the main characters; its focus on small town life, relationships, prejudices, heroes, and villains is very entertaining.  I would recommend this book to my friends, with the stipulation that they read the rest of the series first.
