Rosanna Harlow remains cool, calm and collected (for the most part) when a handsome man, poof!, appears in her backyard claiming to be Archer McCall from 2049. He not only wants her to believe he’s from the future, he wants her to believe her best friend, Prue, is practically evil incarnate in 2049. Despite her attraction to him, he does present a strong case. But wouldn’t she know if her friend were dealing drugs? He must be crazy. Totally nuts-o.
The tug is immediate for Archer. He’s righted many evils before, without getting his emotions tangled in the cases. Yet there’s something different about Rosanna. She’s an incongruous mix of desirability, which she has no idea she possesses. It’s going to take patience and finesse to convince her she’s the love of his life. Perhaps more so, than it takes to convince her, her friend would kill many for the sake of greed.
Her difficult life has made Rosanna cautious, especially when it comes to relationships. She fears the sparks Archer ignites between them is simply a front to gain access to Prue and her operation. Yet she’ll do almost anything to stop her friend from ruining lives, Prue’s included. Even if it means Rosanna’s heart is on the line, and maybe her very life. Will her trust in Archer be her downfall?
Rosanna became almost real for me with her intelligence and quick wit shielding her insecurities. Though he remains a man of mystery, Archer is a doll with his understanding of those insecurities in addition to his attraction to her other attributes.
Normally, continual POV shift is a big distraction for me, but somehow it works for this story. The premise is intriguing and fun. It definitely gets the wheels of the imagination going and makes you wonder at the possibilities.
There’s a mixture of simple and complex, sweet and sassy, quirky and somber in Janet Davies debut novel. The tension between Rosanna and Archer, personality-to-personality, sexual, and evil-busting sets the pace for Rose Perfect.
An enjoyable way to while away a rainy afternoon.
