Royal Blood is a book about intrigue--of the heart, mind, and spirit! It’s a story about self-discovery, personal journeys, and making something of yourself regardless of your past and how you perceive yourself. It's a story about right vs. wrong, and how those aren't just internal battles, but external battles as well. It's a story about vampires, and evil human beings. Most importantly it’s a love story.
Princess Renee is all but banished from the French court, given a secret mission that she must complete or pay the ultimate price...her life! Renee is a master courtesan; she’s beautiful, perceptive, smart, and most of all cunning. Her sense of self-preservation is amazing. She has set out to complete her assignment at all cost, except those that she will have to pay herself. Almost immediately upon her arrival at court, she overhears a plot to murder the king. Instead of being afraid, she decides to use this to her advantage, and does everything she can to help the plot along without getting involved. There is just one thing wrong with Renee's plan...Michael Deaveraux. Michael is a new arrival at court, looking to make a name for himself and his family. He also overhears the same conversation that Renee does and decides that he must watch Renee and protect his King. What follows is rich with cunning plotting, abuse of power, murder, love, loyalty, and self-discovery. All while Michael is discovering that he is in fact a vampire! Michael and Renee fight there way through the cunning members of the court, dead enemies, evil spirits, and through high-ranking church members, to save themselves and each other. Michael struggles with his newfound discovery and tries to balance the evil he could cause with all the wonder that he can do.
Royal Blood is an interesting read. It captivates the mind, and engrosses you in the cunning of the English Court. It makes you appreciative for modern day politics that's for sure!!! It's a story filled with back-stories, rich characters, and a meaty plot. It keeps you interested, but also encourages you to try to figure out whets coming next! One of the things that I liked best about it was that it used emotion instead of sex to convey the characters emotions. There are definitely some lovemaking scenes in this book, but they are very tastefully done and rich with emotion.
I am not normally into the vampire genre of books, but I found this book to be very enjoyable and I would recommend it!
