Savannah Kingsley thought she had the perfect life. A great job, a loving fiancé, and a life of never having to do dishes.
When, on her wedding day, Savannah catches said loving fiancé in a compromising position with the best man (yes, the best man), her life becomes one big fiasco after another.
Savannah, not able to face her family and friends after promising Chad she would not reveal his secret, flees the church and heads to Junction, Texas in hopes of finding a shoulder to cry on in her aunt Ruth. Unfortunately, the shoulder Savannah gets is not in the form of her aunt, and its owner does not give Savannah the welcome she’d hoped for.
Ben Hogg is content with his simple, commitment free existence as the sheriff of Junction. So, when Savannah Kingsley, a marriage minded rich girl, barges in to his town and his life, all Ben wants to do is hide under his cowboy hat until she goes away. This little lady is nothing but trouble, Ben tells himself, but Savannah doesn’t take long to get under his skin. Can this runaway bride change a gun shy bachelor’s mind about love, marriage, and family?
Ben Hogg is your typical grumpy, confirmed bachelor who thinks women are not worth much more than the time they will take to enter and exit his bed. The Sheriff is a good man, but it takes a while for his inner vulnerabilities to come to the surface. Once we get to see a glimpse in to his past and find out what makes him so anti love and marriage, he becomes much more appealing as a character and as a romantic interest.
I enjoyed watching the relationship develop between the main characters, but I did think some of the plot devices were unrealistic and used more to get the couple from point A to point B than to really tell their story. Yet, Savannah and Ben were very likeable and fun and the chemistry was strong between them. I usually like the more steamy variety of romance novel, but that type of relationship would not have made sense for Ben and Savannah, and I’m glad the author stayed true to this from beginning to end.
Runaway Bride is a sweet, romantic story about two people who find love and happiness in a place and time when they least expect it.
