They both thought they had it all; everything they wanted, but upon meeting soon realize it’s only been an illusion…
Gabriella March had the quiet, comfortable life until tragedy struck a few years ago. Too late she saw comfortable wasn’t living. Against family and friends advice she pursues her dreams, or what she thinks is her dreams. A career in writing. And to be able to have the time to do so, she cleans and house-sits. It’s a perfect setting and timetable for her to go for the "balloon ride". Until he shows up and causes her to fall for him.
Dr. Ben Faulkner was forced to cut his research of ancient language short. Upon his arrival home, he’s stunned to find a beauty making herself at home in his home. She most certainly packs a whopper of a first impression. One he’ll never forget. Reluctant to simply toss Ellie out on her ear as his sister employed her to keep and watch his house, they come to a truce of sorts. The house is huge. There’s no reason they can’t live their separate lives under one roof.
But soon, it seems they’re doing things together, they’re becoming close. Ultimately they help each other see what their dreams and desires really are. But Ellie may have waited too long to tell Ben something important. Hopefully their newfound love is strong enough to see them through for their happily ever after.
Ben is patient and caring underneath his gruff exterior. A hero in every way. Ellie is charming and effusive. Totally likable. They’re a perfect fit for each other. While making the effort to keep to themselves, the homey situations they find themselves in together seem to create a bond and bring a smile to the face.
Once again, I found Liz Fielding’s way of writing to be at the heart of the book. The way she tells a story makes you feel at home with the characters. In The Secret Life of Lady Gabriella she gently reminds us to reach for our dreams, to go for the "balloon ride".
It’s simply a warm and sweet romance.
