Janet Begay has lived in Magellan for a short time and in that time has renovated a derelict hotel into a wonderful place for people to stay while seeing the beautiful Southwest. Janet has run into some bad luck lately. While running from the law on her motorcycle, she feels the earth give way under her bike and finds herself in a deep underground cave. She then begins seeing spidery hands crawling toward her. Janet begins to think that they are attracted to the dark magic running through her veins. Her mother happens to be a powerful demon bent on destruction. Janet also has powerful good magic in her that helps her to control the weather.
Janet is rescued by her powerful dragon boyfriend and taken to safety before the hands can get to her. This is only the beginning of her troubles however. As she tries to get back to her life, a new building inspector shows up with a list of problems with her hotel. If Janet is not able to fix everything within a week, the inspector will have no choice but to shut her down.
Janet is beginning to think something fishy is going on and is convinced of it when her boyfriend Mick comes back from exploring the cavern she fell into. Mick doesnít seem like himself at all. His eyes start turning black with shades of white in them and his whole demeanor is not that of a loving boyfriend. Janet is starting to think Mick may be enslaved by a powerful witch. Janet needs to find whoever has enslaved him and whoever has sabotaged her hotel before her whole world comes crashing down.
I believe this is the third book in Allyson Jamesí series. Iíd like to mention that the only reason I didnít give it a 5 rating overall is that itís not the usual series I tend to read. Having said that it was a very good story. The action is fast-paced and drama filled right from the opening scene. It will take readers on a wild thrill ride from start to finish. I love the character Janet and her internal battle between her demon magic and her earth magic and how she melds the two. This book is a wonderful little mystery that will keep you guessing until the very end and also has a great love story between Mick and Janet. The two of them are a great fit and Janet is willing to do anything (even embrace her demon side) to save him from enslavement. I think readers will have a great time reading this book and will eagerly anticipate the next in the series.
