With a knock at the door, Marjorie McClelland finds herself embroiled in another mystery; a despondent and fearful young woman, Elizabeth Barnwell, asks Marjorie and her fiancé, Creighton Ashcroft, to find her missing husband. The police aren’t taking Elizabeth seriously and she feels Marjorie is her only hope.
Confident they’ll find Michael Barnwell in short order, leaving plenty of time to plan their wedding, Marjorie and Creighton agree to find Elizabeth’s husband. However one lead after another reveals suspicious behavior on Michael Barnwell’s behalf and a dead body is discovered with subsequent clues pointing to a handful of suspects.
Marjorie and Creighton know they had better puzzle this crime out before well meaning Mrs. Patterson and friends turn their wedding in to a circus. But a comedy of errors of sorts and missteps and false clues hinder their way. Yet Marjorie and Creighton know time is of the essence when there’s another murder; if things would just fall into place…
Amy Patricia Meade weaves more than a hint of nostalgia within a twisted maze of a mystery. Add to that, bits of humor, familiar characters and their sometimes zany interaction with each other and the suspects and it all blends to create a warm and entertaining conundrum for the reader to delve into.
Here’s hoping for a long, mysterious, off the wall life for Marjorie and Creighton and this series.
