Sidney Gray made a big mess of things when he was killed in a shoot-out with the Cooters. The Cooters stick together especially when one of their own is killed, so they declare war on anyone connected to the Grays. Mandy McClellen Gray is left to protect her children and handle the Cooters.

Mandy had a strong connection to Tom Linscott since he was the one who delivered her 3rd baby when Sidney was away from home counting his gold. Mandy and Tom both knew there was something between them but Mandy never voiced it before for one she was married and for another the Cooters would be after Tom if he had any connection to her.

Well Tom was grouchy and tired of waiting for Mandy to come to him so he sets out to get her and the children and bring them back to his ranch near Divide where they belong. At least that’s what Tom thinks, but Mandy doesn’t want to bring trouble to Tom, and she knows the trouble will follow her. Mandy fights every step they take until they get to the ranch and then are used for target practice by the Cooters.

Mandy is a sharpshooter in petticoats and one of the toughest, if not THE toughest (and most accurate) in the west; when she wheels her Winchester. She’s taken care of herself and her children even before Sidney was killed. Tom wants Mandy to trust him to protect her. But Mandy has a hard time allowing someone so close, knowing what the Cooters are capable of; she’s even pushed her own family away fearing for their lives.

God has His mysterious ways and set out to take care of Mandy and Tom’s troubles. But can Mandy trust God and Tom enough to protect her and her children? Will Tom be able to protect what he claims as his? What becomes of the Cooter clan? Will Mandy be able to see her family again?

Mary Connealy has a wonderful, unique way of intertwining an action-packed romance with tears and smiles (even LOL moments) and a bit of mystery and inspiration. Mary mixes them all together and provides you with hours of enjoyable entertainment. The book reads so fast that you hate to come to the end, especially when you’ve made some friends that you may not get a chance to visit again.

Another delightful twist is the way Mary pulls all three series (Lassoed in Texas, Montana Marriages and Sophie’s Daughters) together. Most of the main characters have been woven throughout all three series in some fashion and Sharpshooter in Petticoats reunites many of them giving us a glimpse into their lives.

I highly recommend reading all three series; they will give you hours of great entertainment.
