Pink’s at it again, stirring up trouble in spite of her methodical approach to a client’s request. When Banty McMeans, Midland’s hugest pain in the neck, asks her to check into his seemingly reduced oil revenues, Pink figures it’s just another of Banty’s conspiracy theories. After all, David Lorenzo, the man he accuses of ripping him off, is one of Midland’s finest, a well respected pillar of the community.
But just when Pink thinks she’s right, that Banty’s barking up the wrong tree, Lorenzo’s wife disappears, along with Pink’s boring Aunt Dru, and things start to get tricky. Could it be that Banty’s right? Is he being watched by the feds? Pink’s not sure, but she’s bound and determined to find out, with the help of Ed, who clearly knows a lot more than he’s telling, and Senator Santorelli, whose involvement seems very peculiar.
I must say that Ms. Feagan’s done it again. She’s crafted story that is romantic and suspenseful without feeling forced. I love Pink (Whitney Pearl) because she reminds me of so many women I like and admire. I think the best thing about Pink is her ability to find trouble—or perhaps I should say the ability for trouble to find her. You know some people go out looking for trouble and others are doing their best to be "good" when trouble sort of finds them?? Pink is definitely in the latter group.
For those who haven’t read the first Pink Pearl book, I think you will have no trouble following along. Ms. Feagan updates new readers without boring those who are returning to the series. The book does stand alone, but we are given glimpses into the past. I think Ms. Feagan’s masterful suspense writing comes through even more in this book. I can tell she’s improving as a writer, even though I had no complaints with her other book. This book is just a notch better. I’m pleased to see her honing the skills that make books so interesting to read.
I don’t want to give the storyline away, but trust me, Pink finally gets some alone time with her man and it’s steamy. Plus, she gets chased and accosted and threatened by both a guy with a Spiderman tattoo and a fat lady with a yappy dog plus, she gets sucked into her Aunt Dru’s church group. All of which makes her uncomfortable and makes me laugh.
My final comment is the "flaw" I found in the book. I say that tongue-in-cheek because Ms. Feagan leaves us with a little cliffhanger. However, I’ve been out Ms. Feagan’s website and the third Pink book will be out next April so I’ll let the cliffhanger "flaw" go. I can’t wait so see what kind of trouble finds Pink in her next adventure.
