Whitney "Pink" Pearl is a modern day hero to some---and considered to be fish bait by others. She’s a CPA who blows the whistle on her firm’s biggest client. While the story reminds me of the Enron scandal in the beginning, I don’t think anybody at Enron could hold a candle to Pink. She ends up having to move from the big city of Dallas back to her hometown of Midland, Texas. Since she can’t find work while the Senate Finance Committee investigation rolls on, she’s forced to work at her mother’s CPA firm. Now the fun begins.
Pink ends up with a stalker hot on her trail. He likes to leave (and send to her) little packages of doggie doo-doo. Having fired her attorney, she has to get a new one. Who knew mom’s lawyer Ed would be so knowledgeable (not to mention sexy)? Then the head of the finance committee, Senator Steve begins to hit on her. A nice, attractive Italian man who makes her laugh. Throw in some moves by her new boss at mom’s firm and you’ve got quite a fine time going.
When I think of the color pink, I think of sweet girlish things. Well, Pink the person has given me a whole new attitude on that. She’s a tough as nails girl who can hold her own with the best of them. That’s a good thing, too, because she’ll need every ounce of energy to keep going over the next two weeks until she can get the diskette with the incriminating memos back. Just wait until you see how she handles the love triangle that men keep putting her into. What a gal!
This is Ms. Feagan’s debut novel. I must tell you that just reading the excerpt on her website had me begging for a copy. I wasn’t disappointed. She writes a well thought out story with suspense and action to keep it all rolling. I’m a former Nancy Drew addict (still have almost 90 of them stored at my mom’s house) and Pink’s story had me on the edge of my seat. I even woke up one night trying to figure out who the stalker was. I’m not always impressed with romance novels involving mystery or suspense. They often are lacking in either the romance area or in the mystery area. I couldn’t figure out "who-done-it" in this book and at the same time, I’m feeling Pink’s sexual frustration as she tries to work out of the love triangle she’s in. I thought the book was well balanced in all areas. I’m also thrilled to know that Pink will return in another book.
Be looking for She’s On The Money coming in August 2005 from Silhouette Bombshell. I really believe that Ms. Feagan has a great future in romance novels. Go hunt down a copy of $how Her The Money and get it read so you’ll be ready for the next book in August.
