Raven Callahan is one unique young woman. She has a special gift psychometry which gives her an edge in authenticating original works of art. She also has a family history for a bit of…well…let’s just say getting items beyond the grasp of most people. (Don’t want to say she is a criminal because that wouldn’t be right—more of a modern day Robin Hood for art.) She has found herself in some interesting situations in the past but none like her current one.
Her assignment seemed simple enough. Her boss was sending her and another employee to Florida to bid on a companion piece of art for one he already possesses. Upon arriving at the auction house, however, she is surprised to discover a police officer in attendance who has some "doubts" as to some of her assignments and even more surprised when she doesn’t win the bid.
Now if you think the surprises stop there, hold on. When she goes to try to make another deal with the man who bought the painting, she discovers he has been assaulted and then that the employee traveling with her has been kidnapped. The kidnapper has some pretty specific instructions for her.
Dax Maddox is the officer who has some doubts. However, he is hiding a few secrets of his own—one of which is that he is no longer a police officer. He has a pretty good feeling that his mission and hers aren’t too far off so he decides to tag along.
Okay, so we can all see that they are going to have to work together. No surprise there. However, most of the rest of the story is full of surprises and twists and turns. Every time I thought I got a handle on where the mystery was going some new angle showed up. There was certainly tension created in Sight Unseen.
Samantha Graves also has a gift for creating sexual tension and coming up with some great ways to bring her characters together. The main characters were easily folks you could create in your mind and feel you knew them. The secondary characters were a great reflection of the main characters and truly completed the story. Truly well done.
Just a special note to readers – don’t miss the five things Samantha learned while writing this book in the very back. Very clever, Samantha.
