Maggie Newcomb’s sister, Ellie, had rejected Colby Stoddard so Maggie felt the way was clear to pursue her long-time crush on Colby. But to get to Colby, Maggie knew she had to impress his mother and to do that she’d have to get better at her stitching and home skills.
Stitching wasn’t the only thing that Maggie had to accomplish especially once Tamara Brennan comes to town. Rumor had it their mothers were trying to match Tamara and Colby. But when Evan Parker comes home from law school, it appears that he’s followed Tamara like a love-sick puppy since Tamara turned down his attentions.
Maggie schemes with the help of Evan to keep Tamara and Colby apart. Maggie is sure that Colby is the man for her. But it’s Evan that falls first, not for Tamara as he was suppose to but for Maggie.
As Maggie and Tamara become friends she can’t really blame her for her feelings for Evan. Sure Evan is a bit clumsy and awkward but he’s very smart, kind and considerate too. It’s not long before Maggie is defending Evan at almost every turn. With mixed-up emotions and feelings, Maggie is not sure where her allegiance lies – with Colby whom she thought she always loved or Evan who has become a good friend. Is he more than a good friend?
It appears to Maggie like she’s finally growing up. Her appreciation of the home skills her mama has tried to teach her all these years is sinking in and her feelings are becoming sure. But are these grown up feelings for Colby or for Evan? Soon circumstances show Colby’s true colors and Maggie knows whom she loves. But is it too late to accept Evan’s love?
Sister’s Choice picks up right where Bachelor’s Puzzle left off. As with the first book I found Sister’s Choice hard to put down. It was also helpful to have read Bachelor’s Puzzle as all characters and circumstances continue.
Again, I’m impressed with Judith Pella’s story-telling as the descriptions of the scenes unfold as if you were there. You are drawn to the character’s human qualities and emotions. Ms Pella shares her extended knowledge of stitching. Also there’s the subtle message that God’s plan is not always our plan, but His is certainly best.
Sister’s Choice is a tender, fast-moving story that will keep you turning the pages. I look forward to the next book in the Patchwork Circle series.
