An abnormal mammogram spurs Summer into making an uncharacteristic-like decision. She’s going to hop a plane to the Netherlands to meet and visit with her grade school pen pal, Noelle. Denial is a key word during her time with Noelle; she’s going to relax, enjoy her friend’s company, and see some sites. She’ll worry about the biopsy and any subsequent treatment when she gets home.
As you may guess, things don’t go as Summer had hoped or planned. In many cases they go much worse and much better. With train rides, walking among a sea of tulips, and stepping back in time, Summer and Noelle find themselves on a journey of a lifetime. One that will change both of them in more ways than either had ever dreamed.
The senses are engaged as the experiences of Summer and Noelle unfold. Descriptions color the imagination. Internal reflections touch the heart and mind. Banter and camaraderie creates a feeling of warmth.
There are plenty of scriptural and spiritual insights throughout as well as a series of comedy of errors (I couldn’t help it, I laughed out loud!) as well as humble realizations. All serve as reminders that while God wants us to rely and trust in Him and let Him walk with us, carry us along our path, wherever it may take us, He also wants us to enjoy life and live each day with a smile, a chuckle, or even a belly laugh.
Sisterchicks in Wooden Shoes! presents the reader with much warmth, laughter, and food for thought.
