"When their sleigh glides into a surprise Vermont snowstorm, the wily horse delivers his 21st century passengers, Kama and Rey, to a country tavern in the year 1811.
Shaken, worried and fascinated, the two attorneys set their cool, logical minds in search of explanation. However the attentions of a rowdy, charismatic young farmer and his shy betrothed expand their confusion.
Ensnared in the skein of a time long past, Rey and Kama seem destined to bear the passion and pain of love that cannot be...and will not be denied."
I can’t tell you what a wonderful ride Sleighride was for me! Ms. Winters packs quite a punch in the opening pages. I found it delightful how Rey and Kama bemoan the fact that they are now in 1811 and yet it never becomes whiny. I appreciated the lack of whining. With kids of my own, I don’t want to read about other people whining. The tavern people are charming and so accepting of such strange "strangers" in their midst. It helped the story move along without awkward explanations and unnecessary sections to read.
Once at the tavern, things really get good. Rey and Kama are fighting their attraction for each other hoping to get back to the 21st Century without the complications of a relationship that would cost them their jobs. At the same time, Rey is very attracted to the tavern owners youngest daughter, Ellie while Kama finds the chauvinistic and wild Lache is tempting her to the point of distraction. The best part of this is----Lache & Ellie are engaged. I think you’ll enjoy all the byplay as everyone is fighting attraction and sexual pull from all corners.
I refuse to do anything that would give the ending away. Let me just tell you it has more twists and turns than Space Mountain. To say the ending took me by surprise would be the understatement of the year. I just kept muttering, "I didn’t see that coming." Bravo, Ms. Winters for shocking an avid reader who isn’t easily shocked.
I enjoyed my first foray into a C.J. Winters book. I’m looking forward to reading more from her. Cuddle up to a warm fire with a hot chocolate and enjoy Sleighride from cover to cover.
