Somewhere along the way, Gabe Leary lost pieces of himself. As it is he’s living the lives, the pasts, of three different people. He keeps to the shadows of Harmony and basically flies under the radar. Actually he’s quite…ok with this arrangement. It suits him as much as it’s necessary; there is a very real threat waiting for one of the lives he’s lived.

It’s all worked out well for Gabe, up until now. Until he meets Reagan Truman and Elizabeth Matheson.

Reagan is an old soul in a teenager’s body. She sees and understands much more than most adults do. There is a thread of kinship between Reagan and him. One that Gabe is a bit uncomfortable with yet comes to appreciate if not embrace.

Elizabeth has recently passed the bar exam. Now she has something to prove to herself as well as her family. There’s more than meets the eye with Elizabeth, more than even she knows, and he wants to, grudgingly, discover it all.

While Gabe is reluctantly touching the lives of these two ladies, they are unknowingly touching his life as well. They are causing him to think and re-evaluate his position in life, in the town.

His presence in Harmony is about to become well broadcast as he saves a life. Several lives will intertwine with his in a way he never expected. Gabe is experiencing emotions and fears he never thought he would. And, his past catches up to him in a surprising way.

Somewhere along the way there’s hope that Gabe and several other people, townsfolk and dare it be said, friends, find peace, find home, while others may find they still have a way to go to get there. Unfortunately the journey for any of them won’t be without a bit of soul-searching, pain, and confusion.

I was so happy to say hello to Reagan, again. An added bonus was to better know some of the other residents of Harmony and beyond: Liz is a breath of fresh air. Bran and Claire are painfully complex. Martha Q, well she’s something else. Mrs. Biggs and Edith are very empathetic souls. While some of them may not have had a big part, their situations were integral to the story overall.

Ms. Thomas leaves the reader ultimately satisfied yet at the same time wanting more. Her writing is combined of a cornucopia of elements that keeps the reader absorbed in the story; heartfelt emotions and fears, warm and compassionate characters as well as down-trodden and cold-edged ones, every day worries underlined with precious, delicate dreams. Her storytelling has a way of grabbing your attention before you even realize it.

Happy Reading,
Connie
