Dear Readers:
I have been a HUGE fan of this author for a long, long time. I have read every book this lady has put forth into the market and, can honestly say, she has never had a "dud" in all the years she’s been writing. This book was no exception to that rule.
Readers are back with our favorite character, private investigator to the Stars, Mac Reilly, and his partner in crime solving – not to mention, his beloved girlfriend – Sunny Alvarez. For those of you living on Venus, Mac Reilly is not only a P.I., but he’s also a man with a hot, number one television show called Malibu Mysteries. His work schedule, as well as Sunny’s – who works at helping stars, businessmen, etc. improve their "image" – is out of control. Their lives have been so hectic that they seriously need a vacation from the world. Not to mention, they need to solidify some things between them. They have always wanted to get married but they still live separately after all these years because Sunny’s little Chihuahua named Tesoro is a jealous fiend who lives to bite Mac every chance he gets. And poor Pirate, Mac’s three-legged, one-eyed dog that he rescued, is also on Tesoro’s attack list. Suffice to say, Mac and Sunny – not to mention the much beleaguered Pirate – need to find a way to live together in harmony without Tesoro killing them all.
What they decide to do is rent a fantastic villa in St. Tropez that Mac read about on the internet. It is a beautiful piece of property named Chez La Violette, and Mac sends the tremendous amount of money for the rental and books the flight. They are even bringing their dogs to see if some peace can be reached. Mac, of course, finds himself stuck at work for at least two more days and Sunny has to catch the flight alone.
Soon, she finds herself driving down a road in the middle of nowhere through a torrential downpour, trying to find this fantastic villa that’s supposed to give them peace. When she arrives, the shock of what she finds almost sends her racing back to Malibu. It turns out that others have rented this fabulous villa for the summer, and they all have a rental contract to prove it from a realtor named Madame Lariot who has disappeared with all their money.
Nate is already there – a Wall Street trader who needs a break and is trying desperately to find a future that he can deal with. Soon others join their little group including, Billy Bashford from Glitter Ranch, Texas, and his young daughter – Little Laureen; Sara Strange, who has fled from an ocean liner leaving her cheating boyfriend far behind; Belinda Lord, a Sharon Stone lookalike who has also left her husband, but is frightened for her life because her other half happens to be a very angry Russian who spends his time in highly illegal activities; and, a young man by the name of Bertrand, who is hovering outside in the rain watching the strangers through his binoculars, wondering if he should tell them that they are in danger from the ghosts and goblins that walk the floors of the ancient villa.
When Mac arrives, everything really hits the fan. This group of International Misfits find themselves leaving the villa and checking in to the Hotel of Dreams, where the rental scam soon becomes overshadowed by an international art thief and an old love story that has spawned a haunting that Sunny tries desperately to solve.
Even Paradise had a serpent, Ms. Adler reminds us, as readers are swept away to the azure waters of the Mediterranean. This wonderful author offers us twists and turns that only a bestselling writer could provide. The passion, intrigue, mystery, and adventure never stops, and all readers will rush to the library in order to get Ms. Adler’s next novel. And…speaking of the next one…let’s just say my weekend was filled with the fantastic storytelling of this truly entertaining author. Enjoy!
Until next time, Amy
