Dear Readers:
Mrs. Wells was an admiral’s wife, and she acted like an admiral’s wife. She dotted every ‘i’ and crossed every ‘t’ - a model of efficiency just like her beloved husband. Unfortunately, the Admiral has passed away, and Mrs. Wells’ children are on their own. Her son, Jack, is a fly-by-the seat-of-your-pants-kind of guy, and has his own business moving houses. But…he’s getting a bit antsy. He doesn’t like to fit a mold, and is always up for something new. Her daughter, Holly, is a lawyer in one of the largest firms in NY. What the kids never thought was that, at fifty-eight years of age, their mother would be calling them to let them know she was getting married again.
Hal Legend is the man and he is a great one! Of course, he is a widower and his three kids are very much adults. Two of his children are a lot like his wife. They are "book-nuts" and love to read. In fact, everyone in Hal’s house were readers except the youngest girl, Amy. Amy hated books - all she ever wanted was to go outside. And…when she became an Olympic Gold-Medal winning figure skater, even her own siblings who are still "overlords" have a little bit of envy. Amy doesn’t fit the Legend family mold, either. She is a go-getter who is now a star, who becomes very meek and mild-mannered when she’s around her siblings because that’s what she’s always been.
When the Legend children and grandchildren and the Wells children are asked to come up to the northern Minnesota cabin that has been Hal’s forever, it becomes an interesting visit with the newly-married couple. Each and every one has their own way of looking at things, and feelings about the new marriage. Jack is very laid back, however, and takes it all in stride. In fact, he takes everything in stride until he realizes that Amy Legend may just be the woman HE wants to call his wife one day.
As the passion between Amy and Jack grows in the middle of nowhere surrounded by siblings who are very "powerful" personalities, Amy and Jack find themselves trying their best to stop their passion so that it doesn’t create even more difficulties for their parents. But keeping it all in check until Summer’s End may just be impossible.
This is a great book from beginning to end. The characters are so strong - each one with such a huge personality - that it’s very entertaining for the reader to follow each and every one of them and their ideas. The romance between Jack and Amy - not to mention, the newly-married Mr. and Mrs. Legend - are beautifully written, and the book captures the imagination immediately. This is one "extended" family that was sincerely fun to read about! Enjoy!
Until next time,
Amy
