Honey Loffington was the last person to see Stanley Green before he was arrested for a crime he swears he did not commit. She is the prime witness to testify for his defense in his trial for carjacking. Honey is his alibi. She is also a partner in the Pima Probe Detective Agency. She was with him the night of the crime discussing the murder of his father.
Honey and her twin brother Brad believe Stanley is innocent. So does his lawyer Allan Renton. One problem is there are too many witnesses against Stanley. The other problem is that the Court Reporter, Mark Ryan, may inadvertently prejudice the case. How? A chance meeting with Honey Loffington and both of them are not just interested in going to court for the case alone. Love is in the air. But is their mutual attraction going to stop before it starts?
In order to save Stanley, Honey and Brad need to find the truth behind the carjacking. They also need to solve the reason Stanley came to them in the first place. Who did kill Arthur Green and why?
I like Honey as a character. You sense, beyond her outward nice girl persona, there is a lot of inner struggle and darkness within her. And I liked that fact that she came across as a competent woman with a tough job yet she was wasn’t desperate to have a man in her life for the sake of it. It’s kind of refreshing to read about a character who still believes in finding ‘the right man’. It annoyed me, as I guess it was supposed to, that her brother was a little too strait laced and took another’s prejudiced word for it when it came to Honey’s relationship with the affable Mark.
Although, the court case against Stanley Green is the main focus of Sweeter Than Honey, I found at times it dragged on a bit. I wanted to know more about what Honey was investigating than reading about the lawyers’ legal game playing. And the lawyer Allan Renton came across the typical lawyer out to manipulate the situation for himself. I wanted Honey to stop being so nice and tell him to rack off but I guess that doesn’t happen a lot in inspirational romance.
This is book two of a series with the Loffington Twins. I would be interested in reading further to see what happens with Honey and the possibility of a relationship with Mark. I am sure book 3 has the answers.
Sweeter Than Honey is one of those books that appeals to a wide audience. There is the slow build up of a relationship between Honey and Mark, car chases, lawyers posturing and innocence on the line. Yes, it is inspirational, but not in a preachy way. It is well worth a read.
