Dee Kelley moved to Mercer to heal after the tragic death of her husband and son. Writer friends invite her to live in a cabin at their lodge and take the time she needs to recuperate. During a walk through the woods, she stumbles upon a little pair of scandals. An eight-year-old girl had recently gone missing and Dee remembers something about her wearing a pair of white scandals. In looking around for the child, someone else finds Dee. In running for her life, she runs in front of a car which just happens to be driven by the sheriff himself, Tyler Madison.
The case of Carly Bradford has been driving Tyler crazy but as Dee regains consciousness and shares her story, he is a little leery to get too excited too quickly. However, after the girl’s parents positively identify the shoes, things heat up very quickly.
Dee Kelly is a wounded heroine trying to face her life with a major hole in it. Ramona Richards takes her down a path that most would think would further cripple Dee. However, Dee finds her courage and her faith again as she helps another woman work through the grief of a missing child. By finding her faith again, she is also able to open her life up to the possibility of loving again.
Taking Carly Bradford also features a hero with the ability to accept help when he knows he needs it. He is strong and courageous but has an incredibly sensitive side as he recognizes that he needs to take things slowly with Dee.
