Payne Dunbyer is a fierce knight, feared by most men. Having no title or lands himself, Payne must find jobs and positions with lords. One last task for a baron he finds distasteful, though he is prepared to carry it out. Kidnap the baron's former betrothed. A betrothal which the king himself dissolved.

Lady Elfreda - "Elf" - is mistaken for her cousin, Lady Agnes, and is abducted by Payne. Her protests, that she is not who he thinks he she is, fall on deaf ears. She's unconcerned, however, as she doesn't fear Payne, or his accomplice, Nigel. But she is concerned when she learns that the baron would just as soon marry her as her cousin, and has every intention of doing so. By force if necessary.

Payne gives Elf his word that she won't have to marry the baron. And he keeps his word by kidnapping her once more, carrying her to her uncle's keep. But is seems that the baron is not far behind.

Worried and not sure how Payne is going to keep his word she declares that she and Payne were handfasted. Shocked and a bit angry, Payne nevertheless goes along with it and with the hastily put together wedding. After all, she does come with a dowry of a castle and lands (though, that isn't foremost in his thoughts it is a factor).

Thus their married life begins...The castle and lands need extensive repair and clearing. Enemies must be defeated. Saboteurs need capturing. And love needs to be nourished if it's to grow.

Payne and Elf have a number of characteristics that make them unique. That make the reader want to read more about them, get to know them. Payne is both fearless and fearsome yet he is gentle and kind. Elf has self-image issues but she is at the same time strong and compassionate. The secondary characters round out the story nicely, each playing their part well.

Gabriella has given us a truly wonderful story. Reading Temptation's Warrior is a wonderful way to unwind from a stressful and hectic day. It warms the heart and makes you feel good. This is a book worth keeping and an author worth reading.

Can we hope to expect more such as Temptation's Warrior from Gabriella Anderson? I, for one, certainly hope so, as it seems as if she's found a period in time which she has a connection to.
