Willow Mabson is a firm believer in rules. Rules help govern society, keep us all in check and have a strong place. She firmly believes that if we desire to see rules revised, it takes a collective effort and working with those in authority to refine the rules. Imagine her distress when she learns (via her cousin, a clerk at Scotland Yard) that Inspector James Sterling not only disregards the rules, but he’s proud of it. She writes him several anonymous letters to correct his flagrant disregard for rules.
When introduced to Willow at the home of dear friends, he finds her to be an intelligent woman. Until he discovers that she’s the thorn in his side with the continual letters criticizing his methods. He challenges her to a little sleuthing contest. The next case he receives, he will share all his information and they will see who can solve it first.
Will he still be superior in his crime solving abilities, or will the unintentional charm exuded by Willow keep him from coherent thoughts?
A lovely book with great fun included. Willow and her friends who form the Ladies’ Amateur Sleuth Society continually try to solve the crimes of London. They are a charming and witty group. I have not read the other books of the series, but they sound like a fun read. I thought the characters were well rounded and the plot was solid. I found the mystery portion to be a little sluggish at various times. The romance builds and builds to a fever pitch. When we reached the lovemaking scenes, the pages sizzled. Ms. DeHart knows how to write about passion.
James and Willow are so perfect for each other and yet they both fervently fight the attraction. The struggles they go through with the investigation just add to the attraction they feel. You’ll be cheering when they let their guards slip and begin to explore the attraction.
