Lady Morwenna's brother has given her control of a small holding,
and she has agreed to marry Lord Ryden of Heath, a much older man. Lord
Ryden has outlived his previous two wives and enjoys the holdings, that
they brought into marriage. Lady Morwenna agrees to the marriage after
her heart is broken by Carrick of Wybren, who is thought to have
murdered his entire family by setting fire to Wybren Castle. Morwenna
can't seem to get Carrick off her mind and out of her heart. Then, a
man is found badly beaten and wearing a ring with the Wybren crest. To
complicate matters further, murders are being committed. Is the
mysterious stranger Carrick, and is he committing these foul deeds?
Temptress incorporates two genres with great ease-- for it is equally a mystery, as well as a romance. Ms. Jackson creates a suspenseful mystery, that drew me in from the beginning. She uses such vivid description, that this reader felt transported into the medieval world, and the gothic feel in places of the novel sent a shiver down my spine. I found myself rooting for the hero and heroine, and there are several secondary characters, who would make interesting subjects for their own books. If you enjoy a great mystery with your romance, give Temptress a try.
