On her way to live with her only remaining family, Jamie Ellis’ train trip to Kansas City should have been nice and quiet and it would have been had the Walton gang not sequestered the train and took hostages.
As an undercover US Marshall, Will McMillan has had to do some bad things in his life, not to mention during the War Between the States. Infiltrating the Walton gang was on this list but in the name of justice, Will was determined to do what needed to be done – until it came to hurting women. All the members of the famous gang were dangerous men and capable of doing anything to get their job done but even Scout Proffit who was known for his ability to accomplish the job with little to no conscience was sickened by this latest turn of events. Hurting a woman was not setting well with Will or Scout.
Terrified, Jamie knows that she will die, praying it will come sooner rather than later. All the outlaws have proven how dangerous they are but Will seems to be a little more protective than some of the others. Soon it’s obvious to Will that he has to get Jamie off the train or risk having her rape and/or death on his conscience. Will is ready to risk his life for this delicate, beautiful woman and Jamie is willing to risk being with one outlaw rather than the whole gang and what’s certain to come.
Even though Scout knew of their plan to jump, he lies about it and is sent to kill both Will and Jamie. Never one to shirk an order, Scout sets out to do just that, but will he find them?
On the run, Jamie and Will are becoming dependent on each other. Love is lying just below the surface but will Jamie be able to love an outlaw and with all the horrible things that Will has had to do will he believe that he can be loved and start over? Only God can help these two lonely hearts.
Action-packed is how I would describe A Texan’s Honor – the sitting on the edge of your seat kind. Shelley Gray’s writing style has a way of making you think you’re right there in the action. As in the first book of the Heart of a Hero series, A Texan’s Promise, your emotions are pulled as the details of Jamie and Will’s lives unfold. Honor is constant, even in the life of an undercover lawman who deserves the love and respect that only Jamie can give (as does Jamie). Add subtle inspiration to the romantic mix and you have a story that you can’t put down.
What creative yarn will Shelley bring us in the next hero’s heart that I’m sure will tug at mine??
