Lewton Patterson wants nothing more than a respectable life with a loving family to call his own. A gambler by trade, he’s had a hard life growing up basically on his own, learning what he could but never having the love of family. It’s time to test the waters and see what happens. The problem is the "waters" are his friend Duncan (Duck) McMurray’s cousins and Duck had told him in no uncertain terms that Lewt wasn’t the kind of man for them.

Well, Lewt decides to take the chance, without Duck knowing, and sets off to Whispering Mountain with the other two gentlemen Duck had chosen to call on his cousins. When Lewt arrives, he finds three beautiful women but the one he’s drawn to is Em. Not one of the McMurray’s but she’s the one who takes a chance on him, showing him ranching, horses and hard work.

Emily McMurray wants nothing to do with men so when Duck sends three men to call on her and her sisters, she asks a friend to impersonate her so she can continue to run the ranch; which is all she’s ever wanted to do. She loves the horses, Whispering Mountain and all it stands for. When Lewt asked if he could work with her, she gave in; Em figured the soft gentleman wouldn’t last a day.

Lewt surprised Em. He came to help her day after day. They agreed on a friendship of sorts however, neither knew that this friendship may slowly make a gambler a rancher and a rancher a wife.

Word came that Duck was in trouble and so they set out to bring him back to Whispering Mountain. As the search and rescue takes place, the truth slowly emerges that Lewt is a gambler and Em is really Emily McMurray. Will they be able to forgive the other for the lies and deceit? Can Lewt breakdown the wall Em has built around her heart so she can accept and give the love he craves?

I’ve had the privilege of reading many of Ms Thomas’ books and have enjoyed them all. Texas Blue is no exception. I’ve found that Ms Tomas has an endearing, unique way of wrapping her characters around your heart with the troubles, fears and doubts we all face from time to time. Yet they are strong and independent blending the human qualities together to make them into someone you’d be proud to call friend.

I’ve enjoyed another trip to Whispering Mountain and look forward to another opportunity to visit the McMurray’s perhaps with Duck, Rose or Beth’s stories.
