What’s a girl to do when she find out her boyfriend has a dead sheriff in the back of his car? Why investigate why of course.
Despite her reluctance to get involved, Marian knows she cannot let boyfriend Rob handle this situation alone. They need to find out why the sheriff died and how exactly to dispose of her without incriminating themselves.
Enter Granny Tuck. She is the Sheriffs’ grandmother and she knows all about the granddaughter’s crooked deals. So what exactly is going on? And what does one fake boob and the mafia have to do with Marian and her computer hacker boyfriend?
The Marian Kind is a short but it is packed with action. It has a nice, modern edgy feel. I liked the characters as they came across as ordinary, flawed people caught up in an extraordinary event. I loved the quirky premise of how Marian found out about the dead Sheriff. It was most original and I particularly liked Granny Tuck. She is an excellent character.
As with all short stories, there is a lot of information given in a rush and I found I had to go back and re-read a few paragraphs. But in saying that, if I wasn’t interested in the book I would not have bothered. I believe Marian and her friends would spin off into a good series. I wonder if this will happen.
If you want a short, quirky read that is anything but obvious then take a look at The Marian Kind. You will enjoy it.
