Henry Parker had just finished college. He always dreamed of being a top notch reporter/journalist for a major New York newspaper. Henry was motivated by the fact that his father told him he would never amount to much.
His dream came true when he landed his first job with the New York Gazette. One of the two biggest newspaper companies in New York.
Henry’s first assignment was the obituaries. It wouldn’t be Henry’s first choice of assignments, but Wallace Langston, chief editor, has all the confidence in him that he would be an ace reporter someday soon.
Sooner than anyone thinks. Jack O’Donnell, long time reporter at the Gazette, was somewhat of an idol to Henry. So when O’Donnell offered him an assignment he didn’t want, Henry accepted.
He didn’t know interviewing ex-con Luis Guzman, which should have been the start of Henry’s career, would turn his world upside down. Upon knocking on Guzman’s door, everything that could go wrong did, and then some. Finding Guzman tied up and being beaten wasn’t what he expected from his first assignment or the interview.
A struggle and a shot fired find Henry on the run. He must figure out the answers to the questions, find out who is behind and involved in the corruption. If he doesn’t he could spend the rest of his life in prison.
Jason Pinter does an excellent job of capturing and holding the reader’s attention from the first sentence to the last. The Mark is absolutely packed with action, mystery, drama, and a touch of romance. There are enough twists and turns to keep you guessing and anticipating the characters every move.
The Mark is a brilliant page-turning debut.
