David Connors is your seemingly average family man with a wife (though they’re separated), two kids, and a dog. But David doesn’t have the average happy life. His wife Kathy has just told him the separation isn’t working. Unfortunately Connors has missed events such a school plays and putting up the Christmas tree.

One cold and snowing Saturday, Connors goes in to work when no one is in the office, a high rise building. Once inside Connors heads for the top of the building with the idea of jumping off the roof. Once there he finds an old red floral carpet bag with a lock and key. The bag is strange, mystical and magical.

He unlocks the bag only to find a feather which reminds him of his son’s part in the school play as an angel named Gabriel. Somehow drawn to the bag he changes his mind about jumping.

Now with a purpose, he returns to his car, but there's a policeman about to have it towed from the "no parking" zone. After a short conversation with the officer, and out of curiosity, David reaches into the bag and pulls out an old cameo brooch. One like the officer had told Connors about; how his wife wanted one for Christmas, but he had no idea where to find one. Connors gives him the brooch and another life is touched.

This is just a sample of the experiences the bag has in store for David Connors. It will touch the lives of other people, but most especially Connors as it takes him on a strange and productive journey to peace and healing.

Don Lock writes like no one I have read before. He presents a style of writing that is unique and imaginative. Each idea causes the reader to reflect not only on the story, but possibly even the readers own life both past and present.

The Reluctant Journey of David Connors is a brilliant piece of writing anyone can enjoy and respect. It is a breath of fresh air in the literary circuit.
