When a gorgeous stranger buys the recently divorced Jamie Buchner a drink at a local bar, she is surprised to find he is someone she already knows. She remembers Seth Kolski. They went to high school together. There was always something different and mysterious about him. Jamie is more than happy to accept his offer of coffee at his place. But she not at all prepared to be thrown out the door by Seth after great sex. What is that about?
After their first night together Seth is alarmed when Jamie tells him she is settling in their hometown of Cedartown for good. Seth had always been attracted to Jamie. But his life is not simple. The last thing Seth needs is wanting Jamie and not being able to have her. How could she possibly understand that he is a werewolf? He needs to get her out of his life as soon as possible.
When Jamie discovers she is pregnant she is surprised and pleased. She wants Seth to be apart of her child’s life. Seth is alarmed that the child is his. Genetically this could be a problem. His childhood was not pleasant. Does he want to inflict that pain on a child of his? When he tells Jamie he is a werewolf she gradually begins to understand the man she has fallen in love with. But Jamie being pregnant is not the only problem he has to deal with. People are chasing the wolf that killed a local man. Seth knows that the wolf was only protecting his own. How can he drag Jamie further into this mess?
The Strength of the Pack is a story where you wonder how can this couple ever be together? I kept thinking what would I do in this situation? There is such angst and longing. Jamie is like any woman who loves a man who has a dark secret. She wants him and believes it can work. Seth knows that when the moon is full his shifts into a werewolf. How can he ask Jamie deal with that? And because of this he is ready to throw away true love to make Jamie safe.
Unlike some paranormal novels, this has a credible plot. When I read paranormal romance I want to believe in the possibility these characters could be real and I felt that in this bittersweet romance. I also liked the introduction of the character Trey. I believe that would make an excellent spin off novel.
If you like paranormal romance and the idea of people mating for life you will enjoy The Strength of the Pack. Read it when the moon is full, listen for the wolf howl and wonder about the possibilities.
