Having sworn off blind dates for the past ten years, Julie Nelson reluctantly agrees to go on one with Todd Aston III to please her newly found grandmother. Expecting someone like Mr. Howell from Gilligan’s Island, Julie is most pleasantly surprised to find a handsome, intelligent, not to mention witty and sexy, man waiting for her.

Not only do they appear compatible on an intellectual and social level, they soon find out they’re very compatible on a personal level. So compatible that Todd spends the night.

What Julie doesn’t know is that Ryan Bennett traded places with his cousin, Todd, who’s always being sought after for his money. And as far as they know, Julie’s nothing but a gold digger. This is one way to teach her a lesson. Sadly by the time Ryan sees what a fun, caring, and smart woman she is, the deception is well underway.

His conscience eventually gets the better of him and he tells Julie who he really is. Trying to explain, Ryan is kicked to the curb. Just her luck, the man she was deeply attracted to lied, the one thing Julie abhors. But the damage, so-to-speak, has been done. Julie finds herself pregnant. The plan is to inform Ryan, then go about her life and raise the baby herself. Ryan has other plans though that includes Julie in his life as well as their baby. First though, he has to get Julie to forgive him and see him in a new light.

The Substitute Millionaire is spicy yet emotional. We’re privy to the sexual tension sizzling between Ryan and Julie as well as the internal upheaval they find themselves going through, mixing their past with the present.

One downside for me...Ryan and Julie sleeping together, having unprotected sex their first night of meeting. I know that’s a personal issue, that it happens. I also know without that plot point we’d not have gotten to read this emotionally charged romance.

Susan Mallery gives the readers exactly what they’ve come to expect from her. Well-developed and likable characters, an attention getting plot, and of course, romance. All tightly woven together.

I can’t wait to see what’s in store for Julie’s sister, Willow.
