Fatima, daughter of Ramses and Katherine, has always wanted to be a Khamsin warrior. Even though it’s forbidden, she has secretly trained and practiced with both firearms and blades. One day her dream will become a reality. And it may come sooner than she thought as the opportunity arises to ride with a scouting party, set to discourage the "Riders" from stealing their stock. Dressed as her twin brother, Asad, she rides and swears to protect Tarik as his Guardian would.

Tarik, only son of Jabari and Elizabeth, is being groomed to become sheik. But that may not come to pass if someone has their way. It seems the scouting party has come upon a trap. And without the Sight, Fatima would never have known their true target was the White Falcon. Tarik. It’s with this gift she is able to help save his life, and subsequently earn the right to train and be initiated as a Khamsin warrior and Guardian to Tarik.

Tarik is both humiliated and proud that Tima saved his life. Though he may be secretly proud of her abilities, he definitely doesn’t want her as his Guardian of the Ages, he wants her to be his. If there’s a way for him to have her and let her save face, he’ll find it. In the meantime they still must face the danger nipping at their heels.

Childhood friends and playmates are now at odds with each other as their attraction and love for each other and the tribe are put to the test with an enemy out to destroy them.

The Sword & the Sheath is another well-written story from Ms. Vanak. She has the ability to create a setting, characters, and story that enable the reader to be transported into the pages...

They (plot and characters) exude a strength that will pull readers in either one direction or another*. Take Fatima for example, some might say she has attitude, while others may say she has an attitude. Some may cheer her on with her obsession in becoming a warrior and some may not. Tarik, on one hand might be seen as arrogant, and on another hand may be seen as fiercely protective. He might be viewed as a schooled and caring lover or as one who loves them and leaves them with no thought but for his own pleasure. These views will determine how well you like them and their story.

Trust Ms. Vanak to continually keep the reader on their toes. Her stories never fail to beguile and surprise, nor do they fail to demand your participation and attention.
