Gabriel "Reign" Housely, the Earl of Rainecourt is a man that is somewhat shunned by society because of the tragic death of his pregnant wife many years ago. He is also part of a group of men known as the Lords of Vice. These men in general are gossiped about all over England just because of the stories and legacies that follow them all. This is Reign's story though and let me tell you its very interesting to read!
Reign has made sure not to get too attached to any woman since his first wife. Not because he doesn’t want to but he just doesn't want to tarnish a good woman's name with the dark past he has. That is until he meets Lady Sophia. Lady Sophia is a very sweet natured woman that is legally blind though she can see just shadows and such. She is taken care of by her two brothers’ that just think of her as a nuisance. That is a nuisance until they are about to lose their home cause of gambling debts. Then Sophia is great to have around cause they can basically marry her off for the right price. The man they are set to marry her off to is not someone she wants anything to do with and when Reign finds out he comes up with a plan to get her out of her house so he can marry her himself.
First, before he can marry her, they need to somewhat ruin her reputation to society. This way, the man her brother's want her to marry will not want her either. This in itself to me is a genius idea. Let's just say that the reaction her brothers have to all of this was not good though they did not get their way.
The one other thing I will bring to light about this book is the fact that Reign and Sophia are connected through their parents. Reign's father killed Sophia's parents back when she was a child and he is the reason that she is somewhat blind or that is what everyone believes. Whether that is the truth or not I will have you read the book to find out. Because let me tell you that twist is one that will blow you away.
I loved this book and especially Reign and Sophia together. Sophia brought out a side to him that no one but his friend's had ever seen and it just made him a very loving character. Though to be honest I liked him from the beginning not matter what. Reign for Sophia brought out a daring side that you could just tell was dying to get out. He did not treat her like she had a handicap. Sophia in general to me was a great character I had never read a historical romance where to heroine had a disability and it was a breath of fresh air to read. I got so into it I almost read this book in one day but finally I had to succumb to my bed calling my name so I could care for my kids the next morning!!!
