Levi Grant learned blacksmithing from his father. He was good at it but Levi was also a big fellow and found that sport fighting paid much better; so Levi took up fighting. But when an opponent died after Levi’s final blow, he was charged with manslaughter and went to prison. It was in prison that Levi returned to his parent’s teachings and found the Lord again, vowing never to fight again. Spencer, Texas needed a blacksmith and that just may be the break Levi needs to become the God-fearing hard working man he desired to be. Besides his past, there was another slight problem; Levi had a lisp and fought very hard to hide it avoiding words like Spencer.

After an engagement gone bad several years ago, Eden Spencer had no interest in men and that included the brawny new blacksmith. Eden was more interested in running the library in Spencer, the town her father founded. Most men she knew wanted nothing to do with books and don’t think a woman should either. So when Levi wants to borrow a book from the library, she’s amazed. There is something about this man that stirs her feelings but she must guard her heart.

Eden found Levi to be a gentle man and unlike any man she’s ever known, shared her love of literature. Due to Levi’s lisp (unbeknownst to Eden), he didn’t talk much but Eden sensed something far deeper in this man so she started sharing her thoughts on literature through letters and soon their exchange of literature debates became so much more. As time moves on, Eden captures Levi’s heart and he slowly weaves his way under her defenses.

But when secrets come out will the citizens of Spencer see Levi for the man he is, not the man he was? Most of all, will Eden be able to see the past as just that and realize that God can change a person? Can Eden decipher if Levi is truly the gentle giant that he appears to be? Will Levi be able "to win her heart"?

To Win Her Heart is a cute and tender story that will win your heart from the first page. The words that Ms Witemeyer chooses gives the reader vivid pictures of the characters, their surroundings and the inspirational message of forgiveness…if God can forgive and forget, shouldn’t we?

I enjoyed the transformation of Eden and the gentleness and strong convictions of Levi. There are many heart strings that are pulled by their story. Take a step back in time and visit Spencer, you’ll enjoy your journey, it sure won my heart.
