When former schoolmate/deb and local news celebrity, Miranda DuBuois, is found dead the morning after a drunken tirade at "Pretty Party", Andy Kendricks is more than willing to let the police investigate. Surprising, but true. It’s her mother, Cissy, and good friend, Janet Graham who has other ideas about the seemingly open and shut case.

Admittedly, Andy has some questions, sees there are some things not quite in sync with what the police are saying, but not enough for her to want to get involved. Guilt, though, has a way of wearing one down. Not only motherly guilt, but self-inflicted guilt as well. Andy was the last known person to have seen Miranda alive. Is there something she could have done had she stayed with Miranda?

All she can do now is get suckered into Janet’s schemes to try and get the journalistic scoop of Park Cities Press history, and keep her mother out of trouble with the police. But is she prepared to penetrate more than the just the world of big lips, injections, and smooth, inflexible brows? Because that’s what she’s going to have to do since it’s obvious there’s more pieces to the puzzle than at first glance. Way more.

Once again it’s fun to (safely, from the comfort of the easy chair) ride alongside Andy as she attempts to fit the pieces of the puzzle together and unsuccessfully tries to stay out of trouble, in more ways than one.

Susan McBride continually weaves and creates fresh, new mysteries and situations to embroil Andy in, all the while subtly incorporating social awareness that’s wrapped in humor, action, and suspense.

Read and enjoy not only Too Pretty to Die, but the entire Debutante Dropout series.
