Archangel Gabriel’s greatest source of frustration comes in the form of three angelic prayer ambassadors. (Grin) Shirley, Goodness, and Mercy.

This Christmas season is no different than previous ones. There are prayer requests to be attended to. The three angels are quite confident in their abilities to grant these requests.

Shirley, against Gabriel’s orders, takes on the difficult task of teacher Brynn Cassidy. She’s out of her element in the crime-ridden neighborhood. Trying to inspire students to learn and dream in the inner city is no small feat. In fact it may be more than Brynn, and Shirley for that matter, can handle.

Hannah Morganstern is in need of angelic intervention and Goodness is the angel for the job. The prayer came from Hannah’s mother and grandmother; they ask that Hannah make a good marriage. Goodness, of course, doesn’t see things the way Gabriel does. She’s positive Carl isn’t the man for Hannah and intends to rectify the situation.

Mercy has what outwardly looks like a piece of cake assignment in the form of Jenny Lancaster. A Montana transplant, Jenny has long dreamed of a career on Broadway. Unfortunately things haven’t gone as planned in the past three years. The dream has dimmed slightly and the lies to her family about her career have piled up. But she’ll have to face them when a certain angel gets involved.

As before, the three prayer ambassadors believe they know what’s best for their charges (A great source of consternation for Gabriel) These angels have their work cut out for them this Christmas, however.

Yet it might just be that these angels do know the matters of the heart. It won’t hurt to give their charges a glimpse of things that may make their lives more passionate and at the same time fill them with contentment, will it?

Our three angels bungle and shake things up once in a while. Brynn, Hannah, and Jenny don’t stand a chance against Shirley, Goodness, and Mercy’s determination. Or maybe they do. Without divine intervention their lives might not be as fulfilling. Perhaps we should keep sight of that and be more open to divine intervention ourselves…

Home, heart, and warmth are what Debbie Macomber’s Christmas stories are made up of. They have the ability to make one’s heart smile any time of the year.

Happy reading,
Connie
