Triplecross was a very pleasant surprise to me. I know you should never judge a book by its cover. However, I read the back cover and looked at the front illustration thinking, "I hoped for a suspense and I bet this is blood and gore." Was I ever wrong!

F. E. Swinney does an excellent job of weaving together a suspenseful mystery/action-adventure. I found it to be a gripping, page turning book. The opening chapters had a little blood and gore, but nothing that was overdone or out of line. I felt the little bit of violence that Swinney put in was essential to the plot and the suspenseful drama that unfolds throughout the book. Some of the initial chapters moved a little slowly for me and seemed bogged down by details, but it really picked up and I found the last third of the book to be heart stopping exciting. I had to keep reading to the end.

For anyone who has been to Kansas City and/or Independence, you will find some of the geographical references add to the realism of the story. While this is a fictional work, I found the style of writing and content to be close to potential reality. Swinney crafts a masterful story of the "what ifs" in a post 9/11 world. I don’t want to pigeonhole her, but Swinney’s story gave me the same kind of thoughts that Robin Cook’s books do. I kept thinking about how each individual facet is a possibility and that this could really happen under our noses. It makes the pages turn faster at the end.

If you are looking for a high-energy, action-filled suspense, I think Triplecross will deliver for you.
