Abbey Shore is a college student flipping houses to earn enough money for school. Her mother died giving birth to her and her father died a few years ago. It’s hard to be alone with no family in the world and no real friends, but she’s making her way. After running into ‘the hunky guy from the El’ at the local coffee shop, things are starting to look up. When Mr. Hunk turns out to be an ER doctor who stitches her arm up after a demolition issue, she’s thrilled that he asks her out on a date.
On her way to the date, she accidentally breaks a glass wall spilling peroxide all over her and discovering an hourglass type of thing. When she moves the thing, she finds herself catapulted 100 years into the post apocalyptic future of Earth. She’s activated a time portal pushing her to a new type of Earth where the "ticks" like Lucinda want her and the portal at all costs. Can she protect the doctor turned ‘tick’ and his band of friends? Or will she, too lose her heart and soul to a tick?
Abbey is just a regular stressed-out, poor college student until she is thrust into a nightmarish world. Then we discover the true grit that makes up the girl. When faced with her ER doctor 100 years later—looking as young as he did 100 years ago—she starts to wonder if she’s been Punk’d. However, this is no joke. A pandemic wiped out over half of the world population and then the Ticks started taking over. Our vampires have their myths based in the facts of the Ticks (an alien race who sucks the blood out of human hearts to eat).
It’s a fast paced book that will keep you on the edge of your seat. Time is running out and Lucinda, Queen of the Ticks, is after Abbey. Will her new friends protect her—and to what cost. How many lives will be sacrificed for her safety? Will they be able to stop Lucinda and the Ticks? Will Abbey be stuck in the future forever? As we learn more about the secrets Abbey’s dad kept from her, the story gets more interesting and dangerous.
The story keeps changing and surprising the reader until the very last page. Suffice it to say, the story will take your perceptions and give them a Twist.
