Trust. It’s such a hard thing for people, and sometimes with good reason.

For Todd Aston III, it’s his money. He has a lot of it and he’s had women scheme to be in his life in order to gain access to his wealth.

For Marina Nelson she doesn’t trust herself. She’s afraid she’s like her mother when it comes to love, that she’ll lose herself in a man.

Circumstances bring these two together in the form of planning Marina’s sister, and Todd’s cousin’s wedding. They’re both prepared to not like each other, to battle their way through each step of the planning. Fate, however, has other ideas. They find through choosing caterer’s, place settings and color schemes, and tuxes and wedding dresses that they actually like each other.

Nothing they can’t handle, though. Friends can have sex and not get involved they mutually decide. Feelings need not be included, especially as both of them have issues with trust and love.

But feelings have a way of changing things. In Marina and Todd’s case, they cause some things to be said that are regretted later. They make them look at themselves too closely. They open their eyes at the last possible moment when it might just be too late.

The Million Dollar Catch trilogy ends with a fast-paced look into how meeting someone can change our lives, our thoughts, in the blink of an eye. That either love or friendship are right around the corner if we’re willing to trust ourselves and others enough to let it happen. Also, that things, people, are not always as they present themselves if we’d look past the surface.

Given some thought, the second book, The Unexpected Millionaire, was my favorite of the trilogy. Although, Marina and Todd in The Ultimate Millionaire perhaps had the best chemistry of the three books. Perhaps because they became friends first and there was that foundation to build on.

Ms. Mallery has a way of connecting the reader with her characters. They are so human, with the faults and quirks we all carry around with us that it’s hard not to relate to them.
