Nyx, a half-drow Night Tracker and private eye, thinks that there may be more to the sprite mischief than just painting the Statue of Liberty's toenails. Unfortunately, Nyx is right, the vampires led by Volod seek to gain access to secrets hidden by the council and use those secrets to dominate the world. It is up to Nyx and the other Night Trackers to put a stop to the vampire's nefarious schemes.
Vampires Not Invited is an enjoyable urban fantasy with plenty of action and a kick-butt heroine. Told from Nyx's point of view, this book contains a little romance between Nyx and her human boyfriend, but romance isn't the main focus of this book-- the fantasy and action is. While Nyx is the leader of her group of Night Trackers, she has trouble delegating and tends to look before she leaps on occasion. This reader found this tendency annoying, at times, however, Nyx comes to realize this about herself and works to improve it. From the beginning, I became caught up in Nyx's struggles and the interactions between her and the interesting cast of characters, particularly, the sprites. When Nyx realizes, that she is wrong to paint all sprites by what a few have done, it is a very poignant moment.
Overall, Vampires Not Invited is entertaining and action-packed, and I'll be looking forward to reading the next book of the series.
