This brand new series follows the lives of four best friends living in a small community in Maryland. They have returned home from their successes and failures - at college and in life – determined to pursue their dreams in the town they’d once vowed to leave in the dust. True love, thus far, has eluded all of the women, until one by one they find their soul mates through these poignant and lovely stories. In this, the first of the series, Alex’s life is in a tailspin as Josh Turner waltzes back into town. This magnetic character walked out on Alex sixteen years ago, only to now reappear, to be the best man at her younger sister’s wedding.
Alex can’t be put off by the arrival of the man she once loved – and married. She needs to pull off the wedding of the century with the help of her three friends: Jan, Ellen and SueAnn, who bring amazingly varied views of love and life into this story, as they help Alex keep her future on track, and bury the feelings that swept her away so long ago.
Coming from a sleepy boring town back East, myself, I was drawn to the closeness and camaraderie that a small village provides. It was both a blessing and a curse to grow up in a place where everyone knew everything about you – especially your failures – so I felt for Alex as she went through the daily grind of trying to stop the nosy and inevitable ‘tongues from wagging’ when Josh Turner reappears. The four friends are charming, funny, and, more importantly, each have a very different viewpoint of life and what is handed to you. A very good moral to take away from this story is that things happen in His time and not ours. Fate and/or God works in mysterious ways that the women don’t always understand, and teaches Alex that not only are there are two sides to every story, but everyone deserves a second chance. The author paints a compelling picture that makes this novel a true find offering pure entertainment. I look forward to seeing the other women of Piper Cove find their soul mates and discover their dreams.
Next up: The tomboy, Ellen, whose heart follows her head toward a stranger in a Corvette. But, what’s more interesting the man or the muscle-car?
