Well, the whole gang is back…and funnier and lovelier than ever, I must say.
For those of you living in a cave , The House of Hope series began with Gabby Fairbanks and her struggles with her husband Philip. When they first moved to Chicago, Philip was trying to start a business and things fell apart in their marriage. Gabby was, literally, kicked out of their penthouse apartment with their two children and had nowhere to go. That’s when she found a new life at the Manna House Women’s Shelter. Gabby has gotten back on her feet with the help of her friends and God, and recently opened the House of Hope - an apartment building for homeless mom’s who need to get back on their feet and into society.
Now, in this new novel, Gabby is having a great deal of difficulty. Her estranged husband is lying in a hospital bed after being severely beaten by thugs who he’d taken money from and not paid back yet. He is also about to be sued by his partner at the firm for taking money in order to support his gambling habit. Gabby finds herself stuck in a situation where she will have to find a way to finally forgive Philip for all the horrific things he did to her in the past, OR move on to a new relationship with Lee (who is the lawyer who has helped her and fallen in love with her over time).
Gabby’s life is still a whirlwind. She’s setting up the House of Hope, and dealing with the cast of characters who’ve made her life happy and fulfilled. Josh and his wife, Edessa, are at the House of Hope where Josh is the property manager; Harry and Estelle - the retired "grumpy" cop and the woman who is loved by all, except her son who she still needs to seek forgiveness from - are about to join together and walk down the aisle; Precious McGill and her daughter; as well as the bag lady who all readers love named, Lucy.
Lucy and her dog, Dandy, are still off-and-on residents of the Manna House, because the bag lady in Lucy refuses to take help for very long. Of course, in this novel, she may just never have to be a bag lady again.
When a stranger comes into their midst by the name of Will Nissan and begins to "help" Gabby’s husband, things get a little odd. Who is this young man? Is he part of the "thugs" that are still threatening Philip’s life? Gabby has no idea what Will’s mission is…until God reveals the secret that will affect someone’s life forever.
Neta Jackson, as always, offers a story full of warmth, charm, friendship, forgiveness, and overcoming the struggles people face in life. She also answers the age old question. Who can help me at my lowest point? Who is my shelter? Neta reminds us that for true relief and true support we should all "go to the Rock!" Enjoy and God Bless!
