We’re back in Big Knob, Indiana, which is small town America at its prime. Good thing the residents don’t know that Dorcas and Ambrose Lowell, marriage counselors, are really exiled matchmakers for witches and wizards. When Annie Winston returns for her sister’s wedding, she is obsessed about the twenty pounds she has gained since her glory days as Miss Dairy Queen. Now a writer for the Chicago Trib, she has to use Jeremy Dunstan’s internet café to submit her stories.

Too bad Jeremy is the shyest man in all of Big Knob. He doesn’t think anybody knows of his secret desire for Annie. He’s had feelings for her ever since high school. Now that she’s divorced, he has a second chance to get his first love. Will he overcome his fears and try?

Dorcas and Ambrose become aware of Jeremy’s attraction for Annie. They secretly make Jeremy their next matchmaking project. A little magic and some wizard spells help Jeremy get on his game.

I haven’t had so much fun with a story in a long time. Wild and Hexy was just a fun book to read from start to finish. It’s really not a comedy, but Ms. Thompson has such a wonderful way of writing things that it tickles my funny bone. As Jeremy and Annie go on a quest for the "loch ness" monster she saw at the lake, their experiences are presented in a funny light. The characters don’t mean to be funny, but they are.

I spent the whole book rooting for Annie and Jeremy to get it together so they could get together. They are such likable characters; you just want them to have a chance at true love. If you’ve ever lived in a small town, you will know that Ms. Thompson has created some true to life small town characters. Every town has them, but their eccentricities are more noticed in a small town. The story is all the more enjoyable because the characters are believable and will remind you of the people you knew in your own small town.
