Marianne has been married to Colonel Brandon for three years, and she is jealous of his continued attentions to his ward and his ward's sick daughter. Although Marianne feels guily about her feelings, she, also, feels neglected. To make matters worse, Willoughby is the father of the sick child, and Marianne has tumultuous feelings about this fact. Marianne decides to play matchmaker to her sister, Margaret, while her husband continues to be called away because of the sick child. Meanwhile, Willoughby, shows up and stirs up old feelings.

In this sequel to Sense and Sensibility, Ms. Odiwe captures a true Regency feel, and Marianne appears to be much the same as she ever was. This reader hoped, that Marianne would grow and settle more after Sense and Sensibility, but she is still something of a drama queen. Although Marianne has settled down some, she is still impetuous and needs her husband's reassurance. Unfortunately, Colonel Brandon is a little dense about his wife's feelings and continues to cause a wedge between them. In the end, the trials Marianne and Brandon's marriage must endure brings them closer together and makes for a more enduring union.
