Eddie, who has pyrokinetic abilities, has trouble, at times, controlling his abilities. Since the man who murdered his sister has been released from prison, Eddie is glad to get an assignment out of town protecting Lyssa, who is being stalked by a dangerous witch. Because he fears his reaction, Eddie desires distance from the murderer. Lyssa, on the other hand, wants no one close to her because of the vicious witch, who has killed everyone she loves.
The Dirk and Steele series is one of my must read series and I've been looking forward to Eddie's story. Luckily, Ms. Liu doesn't disappoint in this continuation of her series. Eddie has a dark past, but he has found some kind of sense of family and worth at Dirk and Steele. Eddie is, at heart, a protector and at Dirk and Steele he has the opportunity to use his unique abilities for good. Lyssa also has a dark past and secrets, which she hopes to keep hidden. Unfortunately, Lyssa is hiding from herself as much as the killer witch and she must confront her heritage and accept that she is, at heart, a good person. Eddie and Lyssa make a great couple and seem to be made for each other. The villain of this book is truly evil and tortures her victims before ending them in a horrendous manner. Luckily, Eddie, Lyssa, and Dirk and Steele are there to fight against this powerful evil. This is an edge-of-your-seat read with plenty of romance, which I highly recommend.
