This is a recipe that my mother used to make back in the 50's when my brothers and I were kids. I made it for my family and they love them. It's a complete meal in a bun; serve hot with a tossed salad and dessert or try brown bagging one for lunch at work or school. Ingredients: 1 lb. ground beef, use lean or extra lean to reduce fat in recipe if desired 2 medium onions, sliced 1 small head green cabbage, sliced salt & pepper to taste 1 box Hot Roll mix OR 1 box Bread Machine mix OR 1 loaf frozen bread dough, thawed Directions: 1.. Prepare hot roll or bread machine mix according to package directions; set to rise. If using bread machine dough, use machine through the first rising process, then remove from machine at that point. If using frozen bread dough, thaw completely and let rise. 2.. Meanwhile, in a large non-stick skillet, begin sautéing ground beef, breaking into small pieces; add onion and cabbage and continue to sauté until cabbage has reduced in volume. Set aside to cool. 3.. Preheat oven to 350°F. 4.. Punch down risen dough and divide into 8 equal pieces; cover with tea towel and let rest; flatten to 10-inch rounds. 5.. Divide the filling by placing an even amount in the middle of each dough round; fold dough over filling. 6.. Place folded side down on a cookie sheet, greased or sprayed with cooking spray. 7.. Bake in preheated oven about 30 minutes until golden brown and the buns sound hollow when tapped. 8.. Serve hot or cold. If serving cold, cool on wire rack then wrap in plastic wrap and refrigerate.
